I have just returned from what seems to me as the center of the world, Harley-Davidson's 105th Anniversary Celebration. I am aware of the pile of pressing issues—political campaigns, Gustav, and so on—that were going on over Labor Day weekend, but I couldn't help but feel temporarily distracted by hundreds of thousands of Harley-Davidson enthusiasts and motorcyclists going hog wild in Milwaukee.
I have just returned from what seems to me as the center of the world, Harley-Davidson's 105th Anniversary Celebration. I am aware of the pile of pressing issues—political campaigns, Gustav, and so on—that were going on over Labor Day weekend, but I couldn't help but feel temporarily distracted by hundreds of thousands of Harley-Davidson enthusiasts and motorcyclists going hog wild in Milwaukee. The feeing of being at the center of the universe stems simply from being surrounded—OK, elbow to elbow, practically—by riders from all over the world. Moreover, I felt like I was on top of the world being afforded the opportunity to be part of H-D's 105th celebration. Every step of the journey, from sleeping...urrr...working on the flight to Milwaukee to literally standing on Milwaukee Street trying to take it all in, I knew I was a lucky gal.
Since this is a blog, I'm going to keep it short and sweet and mention some of the incredible experiences at the 105th. Maybe I'll send a bait blog with more details later. So, the world in my eyes starts with Milwaukee itself; the city couldn't have been more welcoming to visitors for a celebration of this caliber. From H-D employees and those who helped out for the event to the police, vendors, and Milwaukee-ians, all folk were accommodating and friendly in my experience.
Now for Harley-Davidson, the Motor Company throws one helleva party! There was so much to do and see that it was difficult to try and do it all; you almost had to pick and choose. There were concerts galore—too many to name—the HOG 25th, the new H-D Museum, workshops for women riders, festivities for children, ride-in shows... so much to do that you could have sat under a tree August 28-31 and been completely entertained by all the moved around you. Nah, maybe to escape the heat briefly, but the energy and festivities of H-D's 105th itself would have pulled you in. It did me, but you'll have to wait and read the full story in an upcoming issue.
